If something goes wrong

Refunds & Delivery

Last updated 30 August 2026

This page explains what happens when an order doesn’t go to plan — if we can’t take it, if something’s wrong with it, or if we can’t get it to you. If you’re reading this because your order has just gone wrong, the short version is: phone the shop on 01204 528885and we’ll sort it out.

Collection and delivery

You can collect from the shop at 128–130 Bradshawgate, Bolton BL2 1AY, or we can deliver to BL1, BL2, BL3 and BL4. If your postcode is outside those districts we can’t deliver to you, and the checkout will tell you so before you pay rather than after.

Any delivery fee and any minimum order value are shown in your basket before you pay. Our opening hours are at the bottom of every page on this site.

When the kitchen accepts your order it sets a time for it, and that time appears on your order page — so the estimate you get is the kitchen’s own for your order on the night, rather than a general figure. How busy we are makes a real difference on a Friday, and we’d rather tell you the truth than an average.

If we can’t take your order

Sometimes we have to turn an order down — we’re too busy to cook it properly, something has run out, or we’re close to shutting. If that happens, your payment is refunded in full, automatically, straight away. You don’t need to phone us or ask for it, and no contract was formed.

The refund leaves us immediately. How quickly it appears on your statement is up to your bank — usually five to ten working days. It goes back to the same card you paid with; we can’t send it anywhere else.

Cancelling an order

You can cancel free of charge any time before the kitchen accepts — phone us on 01204 528885and we’ll refund you in full.

After that your food is being cooked to order, so we usually can’t cancel it. Phone anyway — if we haven’t started, we’ll do what we can.

Something missing, wrong, or not right

If an item is missing, the wrong thing arrived, or there’s a problem with the food, please phone the shop on 01204 528885 while we’re open, and within 24 hours of your order.

We’ll take the details and put it right. Normally that means replacing the item or refunding what you paid for it, and we’ll agree which with you on the call. We’d rather hear about it than not — if something wasn’t good enough, we want to know.

Please do ring while it’s fresh. Food is difficult for anyone to assess a day or two later, which is why there’s a time limit on it. This doesn’t affect your legal rights if the food wasn’t of satisfactory quality — see our terms.

If we can’t deliver

Our driver will phone the number on the order. If we reach you and the address just needs putting right, we’ll deliver it.

If we can’t get an answer on the phone or at the door, the food comes back to the shop. You’re welcome to collect it that evening, and we’ll try to deliver again if we can. We’re not able to refund an order in that situation, because the food was cooked and brought to the address you gave us.

If something genuinely went wrong with the address and we couldn’t find you, phone us and we’ll do what we can — we’d rather sort it out than leave you out of pocket over an honest mistake.

Please do check your address and phone number before you pay. They’re the only way we have of reaching you.

Making a complaint

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled something, we’d like the chance to fix it. Ask to speak to the owner on 01204 528885, or email spicehutbolton@gmail.comand we’ll come back to you.

If you email, please include your order code — the short code on your order page, like A17 — and the date. It makes it much quicker for us to find what happened.
